Track rides, driver appearances, tech talks, pit tours and car displays were enjoyed by all who attended. $250,000 was raised for Halifax Health Foundation/Speediatrics and Checkered Flag Charities this year. For the 35th straight year, Daytona International Speedway’s Checkered Flag Committee hosted the Daytona 500 NASCAR Celebrity Charity Golf Classic Presented by Kitson & Partners. The event is a cooperative effort between NASCAR, Halifax Health Foundation, Daytona International Speedway and the Speedway’s Checkered Flag Committee. NASCAR Drivers, Sports Celebrities and Golf Professionals participated with 34 amateur teams. National Long Drive Champion Michael Ziegler put on a long drive exhibition for all participants. Prior to the tournament, a Kick-Off to Speedweeks/Pairings Party was held at the Daytona 500Experience. The Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s 2nd Annual Charity Fishing tournament was held in February on Lake Lloyd. A client of Halifax Behavioral Services had the opportunity to fish with a NASCAR Cup Driver and Bass professional. Mr. Gwynn also presented a wheelchair to a local Easter Seals teenager. This year’s tournament, which benefitted the Darrell Gwynn Foundation to cure paralysis and the Halifax Health Foundation/Speediatrics unit, raised $81,000.00.
