NASCAR Sprint Cup Series veteran and TNT analyst Kyle Petty will serve as the honorary pace car driver for the 50th running of the Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola on Saturday at Daytona International Speedway.
Petty, who is a member of the Coca-Cola Racing Family of Drivers, will pace the 43-car field in a Chevrolet Corvette Z08 before the 160-lap, 400-mile race goes green.
“It’s an honor to have Kyle Petty pace the field before the 50th annual Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola,” Daytona International Speedway President Robin Braig said. “The winning tradition of the Petty family has strong roots at ‘The World Center of Racing’ and we’re privileged to have Kyle Petty help kick off this Independence Day holiday classic.”
Petty has made 52 career Sprint Cup Series starts at Daytona International Speedway with 27 starts in the Daytona 500 and 25 in the Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola. His lone win at Daytona International Speedway came in the 1979 ARCA 200.
Kyle’s father Richard Petty owns a record seven Daytona 500 wins, three victories in the Independence Day holiday classic and earned his historic 200th NASCAR win in the 1984 July race with President Ronald Reagan in attendance.
